Final state interactions and gauge invariant parton distributions

چکیده
Parton distributions contain factorizable final state interaction effects originating from the fast-moving jet, produced by the highly virtual probe which strikes the active parton in the hadron, interacting with the target spectators. We show that these interactions lead to gauge-invariant transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions in deeply inelastic scattering. As compared to previous analyses, our study demonstrates the existence of extra scaling contributions from transverse components of the gauge potential at the light-cone infinity. They form a transverse gauge link which is indispensable for restoration of the gauge invariance of parton distributions in the light-cone gauge where the potential is nonlocal. Our finding helps to explain a number of features observed in a model calculation of structure functions in the light-cone gauge.

We discuss the limitations of the standard collinear approach. The kinematical approximations necessary to derive the collinear factorization are insufficient for the description of the exclusive final states. We argue that for a proper treatment of the final states one needs to use fully unintegrated parton correlation functions. We introduce the gauge invariant definitions of these objects an...
متن کاملTransverse Spin / Transverse Momentum Analogy and Gauge Invariance of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering
Using the similarity between twist 3 contributions to transverse spin for usual parton distributions and transverse momentum for non-diagonal parton distributions, we determine for the simple case of a scalar (pion, He) target the linear in transverse momentum twist-3 contribution to Deeply Virtual Compton amplitude. This allows to write a gauge invariant amplitude for this non-forward process.
متن کاملThe light-front gauge-invariant energy-momentum tensor
We provide for the first time a complete parametrization for the matrix elements of the generic asymmetric, non-local and gauge-invariant canonical energymomentum tensor, generalizing therefore former works on the symmetric, local and gaugeinvariant kinetic energy-momentum tensor also known as the Belinfante-Rosenfeld energymomentum tensor. We discuss in detail the various constraints imposed b...
متن کاملA unified description of initial and final state interactions in heavy ion collisions
We have investigated the gauge field of a fast moving projectile passing through a dense medium. We provide a simple and unified derivation, in light cone gauge, of the gluon production cross-section in proton-nucleus (initial state interactions), and the radiative gluon spectrum of a hard parton produced in a nucleus-nucleus collision (final state interactions). Finally, we discuss the validit...
متن کاملOn the Universality of Collins Functions
Collins functions are quark fragmentation functions responsible for some single spin asymmetries in hadronic processes. The functions are defined with gauge links pointing to different directions in different processes. By replacing hadrons with QCD partons we show the universality of Collins functions at parton level. We give arguments to support that the universality also holds at hadron leve...
